Design for OperationsDesigns are usually done in a well-lit, air conditioned, comfortable room under idealized assumptions. The reality of the operation is very different. For designers to be able to design systems and procedures that work well under realistic dynamic work conditions, they must understand the reality of the operation and of the operators. The talk discusses the gap between the idealized design and the real operation and proposes a framework, THE Model, for designing systems and procedures fit for real operations.
