Sleep & Sleep InertiaSleep inertia, or the grogginess felt upon awakening, is associated with significant cognitive performance decrements that dissipate as time awake increases.
This presentation will cover the: 1) causes of sleep inertia including the interaction with homeostatic and circadian pressures and neural correlates; 2) consequences for cognitive performance from both laboratory studies and real world incidents; and 3) novel countermeasures currently being investigated to lessen the impact of sleep inertia.
