Planting a Flag in the Tropics: The Essential Tropical Geometric Background for Networking ApplicationsThis Technical Memorandum serves to guide future NASA researchers and the public at large in terms of how Tropical Geometry can be applied to optimization problems, namely in networking. We give a basic overview of Tropical Geometry through a collection of resources we have summarized. Lastly, we include a discussion of power diagrams viewed as stratified spaces which may be a useful tool to study tropical varieties.
