Landing and Takeoff (LTO) noise aspects of supersonic FlightLanding and Takeoff (LTO) noise of proposed commercial supersonic vehicles will be compatible with the fleet currently flying today. The aero technology to accomplish this exists, but the lack of noise data for these technologies means there is significant uncertainty about exactly how loud the aircraft will be. This uncertainty is creating a stumbling block in efforts to establish noise regulations for the new supersonic market. The presentation shows NASA’s efforts to quantify this uncertainty and to reduce it using physics-based simulations over the next three years.
