Spherically Actuated Motor (SAM)A three degree of freedom (DOF) spherical actuator is proposed that will replace functions requiring three single DOF actuators in robotic manipulators, thus reducing, cost, mass, volume, part count, and failure rate. The proposed will support lunar surface construction, advanced manufacturing for in-space resource utilization, and in-space manufacturing for in-space resource utilization. Steven Peeples (ES33) serves as the PI and leverages ES33’s existing additive manufacturing equipment to enhance the department’s current robotics and manufacturing capabilities, directly leading to future proposals, patents, and commercialization.
