Design and Performance of a Multi-mode Photon-counting Receiver for the NASA Orion Artemis II Optical Communications System (O2O) A multi-mode photon-counting optical receiver was designed for the NASA Orion Artemis II Optical Communications System (O2O) optical communications downlink. The receiver achieved error-free communications from 20 Mb/s to 267 Mb/s with single-photon-level sensitivity.
