Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances Site Assessment Report, General Services Administration Reclamation Yard, Solid Waste Management Unit 010, Kennedy Space Center, FloridaThis Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Site Assessment Report was prepared by AECOM Technical Services, Inc. (AECOM) for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) under Contract 80KSC019D0010, Task Order 80KSC019F0078. The purpose of this report is to document PFAS assessment activities in soil, groundwater, and surface water at the General Services Administration Reclamation Yard (GSRY), Solid Waste Management Unit (SWMU) 010.

Previously, PFAS investigation activities were conducted at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) under the PFAS Center-Wide Investigation Project – Potential Release Location (PRL) 237, from January 2020 through November 2021. Details of these activities are included in the Phase II and III SWMU Assessment and Confirmatory Sampling Report (NASA 2022). Two other Locations of Concern (LOCs) were also investigated and were recommended for evaluation under the GSRY PFAS contract: Ransom Road Sandblast Yard (RRSY) – PRL 237 LOC 31 and Former Sewage Treatment Plant #14 (STP14) – PRL 237 LOC 26. Following the KSC PFAS investigation activities, site assessment activities at GSRY (including RRSY and STP14) were conducted from June through October 2022 and in June 2024. The objectives of these activities were to further assess the PFAS impacts at the sites.

Based on PFAS assessment activities performed during this reporting period, the following conclusions are provided:
• PFAS compounds were not detected above Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provisional soil cleanup target levels in in the vicinity of a shallow well where PFAS results were above screening levels.
• PFAS compounds are present in groundwater above the current United States Environmental Protection Agency maximum contaminant levels and the Florida DEP provisional groundwater cleanup target levels across the GSRY – SWMU 010, RRSY – PRL 237 LOC 31, and STP 14 – PRL 237 LOC 26 sites.
• PFAS compounds have been detected in monitoring wells screened from 2 feet to 40 feet bls and in Direct Push Technology groundwater samples down to 45 feet bls.
• PFAS compounds are present in surface water above the Florida DEP provisional surface water screening level for one compound.
