Aluminum oxide in stellar spectra - An infrared electronic transitionReview of recent research on the possibility of detecting the infrared electronic transition of aluminum oxide in the spectra of cool stars. It is shown that this transition may be of considerable significance for the study of Mira-type variables. Specific targets of further laboratory investigation of the transition are pointed out.
