Hot-wire anemometry for in-flight measurement of aircraft wake vorticesAn airborne hot-wire anemometry system capable of providing data concerning the vortex structure in the wake of a preceding aircraft has been used in several flight studies. The design features of this technique and the operational experience with it are described. This development program has resulted in a flight-test technique that can make accurate velocity measurements in flow regimes where large velocity gradients occur.
