Microconvection in evaporation and microconvection in ice formationAbsorption of solar radiation by sea water with contact heat exchange and evaporation leads to the formation of a thin cold film on the ocean surface. Microconvection to ice in this thin surface layer is attributed to nonuniform temperature distributions in wind and water and irregular drag by the air currents.
