Hypersonic propulsionThe NASA research on scramjet technology for speeds above Mach 5 is reported. A brief overview of the NASA Hypersonic Research Engine (HRE) project is presented with emphasis on the most significant contributions on the HRE to scramjet technology. The work on high-performance airframe-integrated scramjet engines is described, and a new versatile research airplane is discussed with emphasis on propulsion.
