Noise of model target type thrust reversers for engine-over-the-wing applicationsThe present work reports on experiments concerning the noise generated by V-gutter and semicylindrical target reversers with circular and short-aspect-ratio slot nozzles having equivalent diameters of about 5 cm. At subsonic jet velocities of interest for engine-over-the-wing (OTW) powered-lift aircraft, the reversers were noisier than the nozzles alone and had a more uniform directional distribution and more high-frequency noise. Reverser shape was more important than nozzle shape in determining the reverser noise characteristics. An estimate is made of perceived noise level along the 152-m sideline for a hypothetical OTW powered-lift airplane.
