Transition radiation effects in superconducting granulesThe paper examines the use of a superheated superconducting suspension as a transition radiation detector of relativistic charged particles. The suspensions would also be used for detecting low-energy X-ray photons. The DESY experiment for developing such a superconducting detector has been carried out at a 7 GeV electron synchrotron. The detection is shown to be based on the recordable flipping of the state of a single superconducting grain.
