Adsorption of Ar on a nonuniform MgO surfaceData are presented for the adsorption of Ar and N2 on a strongly heterogeneous MgO surface at 84 K and for Ar at a range of temperatures between 130 and 250 K. The high-temperature data are analyzed according to a model which separates the contributions to the potential into bulk and surface terms, providing a method for the determination of the surface area from parameters characteristic of the bulk material. A solid-gas energy parameter and parameters indicating the strength of the impurity sites are also evaluated.
