The absorption spectrum of monodeuterated methane /CH3D/ in the 6000-12000 A spectral regionPreliminary results of a laboratory study of the absorption spectrum of CH3D are presented. Three new parallel-type bands are reported at 8379 A, 9613 A, and 1.065 microns. The application of this work to the search for CH3D in the atmospheres of the outer planets is discussed.
