Improved optics for an ultracentrifugeUltracentrifuge is important tool in study of polymers, biomolecules, and cell structures. In typical ultracentrifuge rotor supports pair of optically matched vials; one contains sample mixed in solvent, and other is reference that contains only solvent. Doubleslit optical system, transverse to rotor, creates interference pattern on photographic plate each time vials pass through optics. Medium in sample vial displaces interference maximums such that shift gives measurement of density distribution along length of sample.
