Reentering space objects - Facts and fictionThe problem of unprogrammed reentry is discussed with particular reference to the case of Cosmos 954. A brief explanation of the mechanics of reentry is provided and relevant statistical data are examined. The uncertainty involved in predicting the landing site of such objects is emphasized.
