Communications technology satellite - United States experiments and disaster communications applicationsThe experimental Communications Technology Satellite (CTS), also called Hermes, uses a high-power transmitter and 12- and 14-GHz frequencies for wideband (two- and one-way television) and narrowband (voice, data) communications. In the joint program, both Canada and the United States have conducted a variety of communications experiments. This report concentrates on U.S. CTS experiments and miniexperiments that use ground antennas from 0.6 to 5 meters in diameter. The U.S. CTS experiments program is synopsized in this report. The use of CTS for simulated and actual disasters is summarized.
