A review of issues and strategies in nondestructive evaluation of fiber reinforced structural compositesThe need for advanced nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques for quantitative assessment of the mechanical strength and integrity of fiber composites during manufacture and service and following repair operations is stressed. The discussion covers problems and different approaches in regard to acceptance criteria, calibration standards, and methods for NDE of composites in strength critical applications. Finally, it is concluded that acousto-ultrasonic techniques provide the 'methods of choice' in this area.
