Power management of multi-hundred kilowatt spacecraft power systemsA NASA-sponsored study of space power distribution system technology is in progress to develop an Autonomously Managed Power System (AMPS) for large space power platforms. The conceptual design of a 250 kW photovoltaic power system, including the power management subsystem (PMS), is presented. A PMS concept is derived based on the need to accommodate the increased complexity of a utility-type power system, and to minimize Shuttle resupply and ground station operational costs. The main PMS functions are discussed along with the control strategies of the autonomously managed power system.
