Wideband Delta VLBI for deep space navigationDevelopments in the area of deep space tracking and navigation during the last decade are briefly reviewed, and advantages offered by wideband differential Very Long Baseline Interferometry (Delta VLBI) are discussed. Delta VLBI data from a spacecraft and an angularly nearby extragalactic radio source promise to provide a factor of five improvement in deep space navigation accuracies as compared with those presently obtained by conventional radiometric tracking. Results of a restricted bandwidth demonstration of wideband Delta VLBI employing the Voyager spacecraft are analyzed.
