Oxidation Protection for ThermocouplesThin platinum film on thermocouple sheath protects non-noble-metal thermocouples from deterioration in oxygen-rich atmosphere. Coating works on nickel-alloy sheathed thermocouples otherwise destroyed by corrosion in pure oxygen at 1,000 degrees C.
