Formation of fine dust on Saturn's rings as suggested by the presence of spokesThe common interpretation of spokes on the B ring of Saturn is that they are the result of light scattered by electrostatically levitated micrometer- and submicrometer-size dust particles. The origin of this dust in terms of radiation-induced thermal fatigue and collisions between the particles of the ring as well as meteoritic bombardment is investigated.
