Capabilities and applications of the Geopotential Research Mission to be launched in the early 1990's are explored and the benefits of more detailed measurements of the Moon and planets are indicated. Earthquake prediction in the western part of the U.S. is discussed. The use of decimeter, centimeter, and millimeter systems for very long baseline interferometry, satellite laser ranging, and lunar ranging techniques are discussed.
