Application of a polynomial spline in higher-order accurate viscous-flow computationsA quartic spline, S(4,2), is proposed which overcomes some of the difficulties associated with the use of splines S(5,3) and S(3,1) and provides fourth-order accurate results with relatively few grid points. The accuracy of spline S(4,2) is comparable to or better than that of the fourth-order box scheme and the compact differencing scheme. The use of spline S(4,2) is suggested as a possible way of obtaining fourth-order accurate solutions to Navier-Stokes equations.
