Fiber-Optic Electric-Field MeterSensor for measuring electric-field strength does not greatly alter field in which placed. Sensor used to map fields in electric power substation or under high-voltage transmission line. Also used for laboratory measurements. Fused-silica fibers guide light from source to photometer. Light emerges from tip of source fiber, passes through curved coupler, and enters tip of photometer fiber. Attenuation of coupler changes with distance between fiber tips.
