Microstructural design in low alloy steelsThe evolution of microalloyed steels from plain carbon steels is examined with emphasis on grain size control by use of Nb, Ti and V additions and by the application of controlled rolling. The structural changes during controlled rolling are described as well as the influence of alloying elements on these changes, and on the final microstructure. The achievement of high strength and toughness is discussed including the role of inclusions.
