The influence of combustion liner holes on noise production by ducted burnersThe thermoacoustic energy conversion process in a turbulent flame is not yet sufficiently well understood to allow accurate prediction of the sound pressure field of even the simplest of laboratory burners. The present contribution is intended to be a step toward fuller understanding of this process. In particular, the possibility is explored that the source structure, in the form of the thermoacoustic efficiency spectrum, might be influenced by the acoustic response of the burner itself. Experimental results are presented which seem to establish that, at least for the gas-fueled laboratory burner studied, source activity is not affected by the addition of downstream combustion liner holes which otherwise alter the acoustic response of the burner.
