The Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation - Fifteen years of researchThe Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation governs the generation of sound in fluids in the presence of solid boundaries in motion. This equation is reviewed for situations where the linearization of the governing equations is allowed. In addition, research on the application of this equation to problems of aeroacoustic is briefly surveyed. Particular attention is given to the formulation of supersonic sources moving in uniform propeller-like motion.
