Spartan 101 structural analysis and design considerationsThe final results for the Spartan 101 (Sp101) stress analysis are presented. The Special Payloads Division (SPD) is the payload integrator for the Spartan payloads. As a payload integrator of a Space Shuttle payload the SPD is responsible for all the structural safety requirements. The Spartan system includes the Spartan Flight Support Structure (SFSS) and the Spartan fly-away experiment. The Release/Engage Mechanism (REM), the Mission Peculiar Equipment (MPE), and the MPE Support Structure (MPESS) are the components of the SFSS. It is demonstrated how the full Spartan 101 system was integrated and verified before flying in the Space Shuttle. Needed analyses and testing are discussed. Key events in the Sp101 time line are also covered.
