Science on the Space Station: The opportunity and the challenge - A NASA viewThe Science and Applications Information System (SAIS) which will provide users with remote, interactive, and iterative access from their home locations to the many information system services is introduced. Such aspects as transaction management, standard format data units, and the use of intelligent data management systems are discussed. It is concluded that new and innovative approaches to information management must be developed so that the full potential of the Space Station can be realized with respect to the demands of the entire science community.
