Estimation of canopy parameters for inhomogeneous vegetation canopies from reflectance data. III - TRIM: A model for radiative transfer in heterogeneous three-dimensional canopiesA model for radiative transfer in heterogeneous three-dimensional canopies such as those found in forests is proposed. Its use in estimating important biophysical variables such as leaf area index and canopy architecture from bidirectional canopy reflectance data is discussed. The model and its use in estimating canopy parameters through its inversion are validated with measured canopy reflectance data for corn canopies.
