The IUE data base: Homogenizing the IUE object nomenclatureThe IUE project started to homogenize the object nomenclature in the IUE data base. Due to the absence of an official IAU nomenclature hierarchy and in view of the increasing confusion in IUE (and, in general, astronomical) object identifications, the IUE project adopted its own nomenclature hierarchy. The scheme and problems encountered in establishing it are described.
