Power flow in a beam using a 5-accelerometer probeA method to determine structure-borne power flow is examined which uses central finite differences to approximate the field variables required to calculate the shear and bending components of flexural vibration. An experimental study using a beam driven by a shaker was performed with the aim of comparing estimates using this proposed five-accelerometer method and the conventional two-accelerometer, free-field method. The advantages and disadvantages of the new method are pointed out.
