JPL and Mars explorationThe role of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the NASA program for Mars exploration is discussed. The scientific objectives for the study of Mars are outlined. Plans for the combined Comet Rendezvous Asteroid Flyby-Cassini mission to study the evolution of the organic molecules that are the precursors to life are examined in detail. Options for missions to Mars are considered.
