Rotation of Hyperion. I - ObservationsPrecise and well sampled observations of Hyperion over a long period of time have been performed to test the prediction of Wisdom et al. (1984) that the satellite is in a state of chaotic rotation. CCD data for a 13-week period were obtained in Chile and in Arizona. A phase-dispersion-minimization analysis of the light curve indicates that Hyperion is not in a periodic rotational state, thus suggesting that it is chaotic.
