Nuclear line spectroscopy of solar flaresA large nuclear-line-rich solar flare which occurred near the west limb on April 27, 1981 has been analyzed. Three intense and isolated gamma-ray lines observed have been identified as the deexcitation lines of Ne-20(1.634 MeV), C-12(4.438 MeV), and O-16(6.129 MeV). The elemental abundances of the ambient gas at the site of gamma-ray line production in the solar atmosphere deduced using the observations are found to be different from local Galactic abundances.
