The power of shadows - Shadow stereopsisIt is demonstrated that retinal images with no parallax disparity but with different shadows are fused stereoscopically, imparting depth perception to the imaged scene. Shadows are shown to be an important, hitherto undescribed, stereoscopic cue for depth perception.
