The constancy of the ratio of the molecular hydrogen lines at 3.8 microns in OrionThe 1-0 O(7) and 0-0 S(13) lines of H2, at 3.807 and 3.846 microns, have been mapped over the region of the Orion molecular outflow. The intensity ratio of these lines is found to be independent of position in the outflow. From this it is inferred that the structure of the shocks and their cooling flows in Orion may be more akin to hydrodynamic shocks than the low-temperature C-shocks that are currently favored.
