Experimental tests of FTE theoriesA brief overview is presented of a number of qualitative geometrical models as well as simulation models of flux transfer events (FTEs) and an attempt is made to identify critical observational tests that would help discriminate between these models. These tests are concerned with flux tube orientation, speed and structure. Available single and multiple spacecraft observations are discussed in the context of these tests. Particular attention is given to the problem of determining flux-tube orientation and speed from a single spacecraft.
