NASA's Small Explorer programThis paper describes a new component of the NASA's Explorer Program, the Small Explorer program, initiated for the purpose of providing research opportunities characterized by quick and frequent small turn-around space missions. The objective of the Small Explorer program is to launch one to two payloads per year, depending on the mission cost and the availability of funds and launch vehicles. In the order of tentative launch date, the flight missions considered by the Small Explorer program are the Solar, Anomalous, and Magnetospheric Explorer; the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite; the Fast Auroral Snapshot Explorer; and the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer.
