Self-Heterodyne Laser-Spectrum AnalyzerApparatus measures spectral widths of light emitted by GaAs or other narrow-linewidth diode lasers at wavelengths between 800 and 900 nm. Operating on quasi-homodyne of self-heterodyne principle, apparatus provides relatively high spectral resolution: measures spectral widths of order of 100 kHz. Fine spectral resolution of apparatus provides data relevant to use of AlGaAs diode lasers in such applications as coherent optical communication through free space and injection seeding of solid-state lasers. Also used to explore connections between lifetimes and spectral widths of diode lasers.
