Mars observer - Orbital evolution, accuracy and controlThe orbital phase and the major factors controlling the Mars Observer orbital evolution and accuracy are studied. Particular attention is given to the gravity field and atmospheric density. It is found that gravity field errors are reduced by the implementation of a gravity calibration period. A typical set of ground tracks corresponding to the optional mapping orbit definition is given.
