Convection in stars and heating of coronaeThe properties of convection in the sun and other cool stars are summarized. Recent studies of convection which have involved the use of supercomputers to model the flow of compressible gas in three dimensions are discussed. It is shown how the results of these computations may eventualy provide an understanding of how nonthermal processes heat coronal gas to temperatures of millions of degrees.
