Fiber Jackets For Vibration-Damping StrutsJacket of braided fibers fastens to structural joints at ends of strut. Carries excessive tensile loads, partly bypassing strut. Friction between braided fibers gives rise to hysteresis in stress-versus-strain behavior of jacket. Hysteresis enhances absorption of large vibrations.
