Ice in the northern lowlands and southern highlands of Mars and its enrichment beneath the Elysium LavasThe simultaneously examination of ejecta mobility, crater morphology, and surface features has enabled several conclusions to be drawn regarding the location of subsurface ice in the region. The ice distribution is shown to be highly dependent upon latitude and geological situation; in particular, pronounced differences in the distribution between the highland and lowlands are seen, and concentrations of ice were detected beneath the Elysium lavas.
