Turbulence dynamics in the wavelet representationThe phenomenon of small-scale intermittency is shown to motivate the decomposition of the velocity fields into modes that exhibit both localization in wavenumber and physical space. We review some basic properties of such a decomposition, called the wavelet transform. The wavelet-transformed Navier-Stokes equations are derived, and we define a new quantity Pi(r, vector-x, t), which is the flux of kinetic energy to scales smaller than r at position vector-x (at time t). The main goals of this research are also summarized.
