Theoretical study of the bonding of the first- and second-row transition-metal positive ions to acetyleneThe bonding of transition-metal ions to acetylene is studied by using a theoretical treatment that includes electron correlation. The ions on the left side of the first and second transition rows insert into the pi bond to form a three-membered ring. On the right side of the row the bonding is electrostatic. The trends in bonding are discussed.
