On the application of the Germano identity to subgrid-scale modelingAn identity proposed by Germano (1992) has been widely applied to several turbulent flows to dynamically compute rather than adjust the Smagorinsky coefficient. The assumptions under which the method has been used are discussed, and some conceptual difficulties in its current implementation are examined.
