Propagation of flexural mode AE signals in GR/EP composite platesA Fourier phase technique has been used to measure the dispersion of the flexural plate mode in graphite-epoxy composite laminates. Classical plate theory is shown to be of limited value in predicting the dispersion of this mode because it assumes that the effects of shear deformation and rotatory inertia are negligible. Higher-order plate theory, which includes these effects, gives much better agreement with measured values.
